Kate's take: To me, this piece captures the serene, shimmering caustic light patterns that dance on the the ocean floor on a clear summer day. The painting evolved over several years and many layers of paint, each washing over the last to create a new experience of color, pattern, texture, and light. I used a pearlescent wash over the entire piece, which means the painting light changes as you walk around it, and as the light around it changes. It's completed it with a raised, wave-like resin lens in a platinum-sand shade, allowing the soft transitions of turquoise, coral, gold, and silver to emerge through the waves, as if they're part of a vibrant underworld peering up through the sea's surface. The white lacquer frame adds a pop of crisp definition, like that bright white bikini you can't stop looking at. PS - for those who like to feel the weight of a piece from afar, she's heavy (but totally hangable).
